Welcome

"And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." 2 Timothy 2:2

WHAT IS THE GOAL?

The goal of Bible Schools is to teach the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. By teaching the true Gospel, false teaching and ignorance will be done away with, which will lead to a vibrant and growing church that loves its neighbors and loves God.

The goal for every Bible School student is for he/she to graduate equipped to be a minister of the Gospel. There are four paths that a graduate takes after graduation:

  • Return to their workplaces, bolstered with Biblical leadership and character training
  • Plant a church
  • Return to their church, equipped and trained to serve and lead
  • Become a missionary

Regardless of the path one takes after graduation, each student is equipped and encouraged to begin sharing the Gospel with and discipling their community.

CHURCH PLANTING

Okoa believes that the church planting movement is a must for every church. However, it should be done in an organized way. At Okoa, we utilize two books, the Discovery Bible Study (DBS) and the Disciple Making Movement (DMM). Each of these books are used to teach our Bible School students the process and fundamentals of church planting. It is important to note that a student only needs a Bible to enter a community to seek after a person of peace (Mathew 10:11-14). As the student prays, and the Lord leads, they are able to locate the person of peace. Then, they begin working with the person of peace and, as a result, many others join and then they start a DBS. In this process, you may find a growing group where many are discovering our Lord Jesus Christ, and that they can no longer be accommodated in that meeting place. If the meeting place is near a church, we tell them to join that nearby church. If it is not, then we require them to provide us with land, and then we plant the church for them.

WHAT IS DBS?

"DBS" stands for Discovery Bible Study. The DBS model is a participant-led discover journey into learning and understanding what the Bible teaches. The DBS is the way into a community and truly guides people through the Gospel!

About us

Church Planting and Bible Schools

The first Okoa Refuge Bible School ran from May 2011 - May 2013 with 45 men and women graduates. As of 2024, 80 more schools have graduations and 112 are currently running. So far, over 1,869 men and women have graduated from the Bible School program. The school meets one week each month for 24 consecutive months. People travel from their homes to come and spend an intense week learning the truth behind the Scripture. Okoa ensures that every student has their own textbooks and a qualified teacher to teach the class. Students are responsible for their own meals, accommodations and transportation. The students also provide for the needs of the teacher.

What do we Teach

Okoa Bible Schools use a curriculum developed by Harvest Time International. Okoa has translated the curriculum into four different languages in order for students to be able to learn in their own native tongues. Courses include (but are not limited to): Foundations of Faith Old & New Testament Survey Spiritual Strategies Biblical Worldview Methodology of Multiplication

Send A Missionary

Okoa believes so much in its Bible School graduates that we highly encourage them to become missionaries! Most will go back home and share Christ with their families and neighbors. Bible School does not stop with the student! A few of them are chosen to be long term missionaries to the unreached people groups in the African continent. These people are sent out and cared for by the incredible staff at Way of Salvation Church (WOS). After the two-year Bible School program, they complete the Perspectives in World Missions course and work hand in hand with the WOS mission’s department. So, what’s the cost? Each missionary costs only $400/month to send and keep on the mission field! Such a small amount to make such a huge impact!
